When Hemorrhoid Cause Pain: The Pits and Falls
Dr Hussein Bernawi
Specialist in General Surgery, Benghazi Medical Center
Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Al-Arab Medical University
Hemorrhoids have plagued humankind since ancient times and might have even influenced world history. The emperor of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, suffered from hemorrhoidal disease. On the day of the decisive battle at Waterloo, Napoleon was in pain because of a severe case of thrombosed hemorrhoids.half of those seeking care for hemorrhoids may in fact have another disorder Although severe anal pain is often attributed to hemorrhoids, they are rarely the cause. In the absence of visible, thrombosed external hemorrhoids (blood clot and swelling), severe pain is frequently secondary to anal fissure.

Anticoagulant Therapy: when should it be reversed and how?
Dr Abdulwahab EL Barsha
Specialist in Endocrinology and Diabetes, the 7th of October Hospital
Lecturer, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Al-Arab Medical University
A significant proportion of anticoagulated patients are being admitted annually for elective surgery or invasive procedures. Furthermore many of them suffer from severe or life-threatening bleeding or require urgent surgical interventions. In these situations careful management of anticoagulation therapy is required to reduce not only the risk of bleeding but also the risk of thrombembolism if anticoagulation has to be reversed or interrupted
